This can take place in one to one settings or within groups (when available).
In their first 1000 days of life without using words, babies have many wonderful ways they express themselves. They can feel emotions, form close and secure relationships, and use these relationships to explore their world. Sensitive caregiving and nurturing, supports babies to learn and grow in many ways. Understanding how babies learn best supports them to cope with life challenges.
The first 1000 days is foundational and important for babies developing trusting relationships with others, leading to the valuing their own emotional and physical health.
All babies have the right to be loved, be kept safe from physical and emotional harm and to sleep enough for their bodies to grow well.

NCAST Feeding Scales and Teaching Scales
NCAST is the Nursing Child Assessment Satellite Training

NCAST utilises research and evidence based information to assist caregivers to better support and provide care their infants through the development of a nurturing environment.
It was the first parent-child interaction tool in clinical research and continues to be the gold standard in practice today to determine a child’s cognitive development.
Kathryn Barnard (April 16, 1938 – June 27, 2015) was a nurse known for her discovery of the role of mother – newborn interactions. She is also credited with discovering that rocking chairs and listening to heartbeats could help infants; this research caused hospitals to install rocking chairs in labor, delivery and neonatal units.
At Family Haven SA we are able to utilise the NCAST assessments to assist in developing the caregiver-infant interaction. We are also one of the few Accredited Trainers in Australia who can deliver this training to a wide range of health professionals including Nurses, Midwives, Infant Mental Health Workers, Social Workers and Psychologist.
